Mascot Blueline:
An Eco-Friendly Power Solution

Introduction

Definition of Eco-Design

Eco-design focuses on creating products with minimal environmental impact throughout their life cycle. It involves considering environmental aspects in the product development, manufacture and end use.

Examples of these include improving circularity and decreasing resistance leading to higher efficiencies and energy performance.

Relevance of Eco-Design

Eco-design plays a crucial role in creating products that are energy-efficient, resource-conscious, and environmentally sound.

“Eco-design is expected to substantially improve the energy efficiency of external power supplies. The resulting annual energy savings of 10 TWh by 2020 are enough to power the whole of Estonia for more than three months. This corresponds to annual CO2 emission reductions of almost four million tonnes. It will also result in cost savings of around two billion euros for the users.” European Commission

At Mascot, we are committed to delivering innovative power solutions that align with and surpass the highest standards of energy efficiency and Eco-design guidelines and requirements.

Our Blueline LI charger range is a prime example of our dedication to providing reliable and sustainable power solutions. This charger is designed with precision to meet strict Eco-design principles, which we will discuss in more detail later in this blog.

Eco-design requirements & compliance

A) Eco-Design principles

The Mascot Blueline incorporates Eco-design principles, integrating key design elements that reduce its impact on the environment.

It goes without saying that Energy Efficiency is of fundamental importance when designing electrical components and the Mascot Blueline is optimised for charging and high energy efficiency, thereby reducing wasted energy. No-load power consumption is also reduced through innovative power management which reduce standby power when the supply is plugged into a power outlet but not connected to a device.

Ensuring Durability

Mascot chargers have reliability at the core of their design. This is achieved through the high-quality materials and robust electronic components which ensure durability. This is why Mascot chargers are chosen worldwide for critical applications in demanding environments.

B) Regulatory framework and compliance

The Blueline is not just about principles; it's about compliance. Meeting the highest standards, such as Department of Energy (DoE) Level VI, Code of Conduct (CoC) Tier 2, California Energy Commission (CEC), and Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS), shows Mascot's commitment to regulatory excellence.

DOE Level VI sets energy efficiency standards for external power supplies, requiring minimal standby power consumption and high active mode efficiency to reduce wasted energy during use. Specifically, the efficiency standard mandates that No-Load power consumption does not exceed 0.210 W for EPS ranging from 49 W < Pout ≤ 250 W and less than or equal to 0.500 W for Pout > 250 W.

The Code of Conduct (CoC) Tier 2 is a voluntary scheme that aims to improve the energy efficiency of power adapters. It sets stricter limits for No-load and active mode power consumption than Level VI, which is the current mandatory standard in the US, Canada and Europe.

The CEC aligns with the DOE Level VI and establishes energy efficiency standards for appliances and electronic devices sold in California. Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for chargers typically focus on establishing the minimum level of energy efficiency that power supplies must meet.

Energy savings & benefits

The Blueline stands out for its energy-saving features, which also translates into tangible benefits for users, including cost savings and reduced environmental impact.

This is achieved through a comprehensive approach covering circularity, energy performance and sustainability aspects. We pride ourselves on durability, to ensure that each product which leaves our factory floor is meticulously tested to ensure compliance and quality.

Looking to the future

As technology continues to evolve, so does Mascot's dedication to Eco-design. While the Blueline sets a current benchmark, Mascot remains committed to exploring innovative ways to enhance sustainability, anticipating future needs in both technology and sustainability.

Conclusion

In summary, by adhering to Eco-design principles and meeting rigorous regulatory standards, the Blueline not only reduces environmental impact but also sets a new standard for environmentally conscious power solutions.

In the world today, where every design choice matters, Mascot is dedicated to creating products that empower without compromising the planet.
